STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - OCTOBER 2014

MALCOLM'S REPORT

Well the first meeting at the new venue (The Swan, Stream Road, Kingswinford, DY6 9NW) on Tuesday 21st October most certainly got off to a flying start at 8.00pm, with Gabriela introducing me, after she had played four George Formby numbers. After that the rest of the evening went like clockwork with Graham playing 'My Grandfather's Clock' in the second half (George's father who recorded it). At least 97% of the numbers played were George Formby's which of course it should be, after all it is the George Formby Society.  There were some excellent performances by all who played , thus making a memorable evening in the warmth and hospitality of the new venue. Our thanks go to Vince for allowing the use of the George Formby Stourbridge Branch to be in such a nice venue.  I believe that alterations are being made before the November meeting on Tuesday 18th November. A reminder that at the November meeting £4.00 will be collected for the Christmas Buffet, which this year the Staff at The Swan will be doing the catering, hence the £4.00 per head, which will take pressure off the ladies who have done such an excellent job over the years. Because November will be 10 years since Billy Uke Scott passed away (it doesn't seem like it) I was informed by Steve Willetts at the November weekend meeting in the Renaissance Room at the Winter Gardens. Just as a tribute to Billy, who I knew well, I thought at our next meeting some of his music should be featured which he did composed a lot and still featured at the GFS meetings, along with George Formby numbers.  Finally very many thanks to all who appeared at the meeting that also includes visitors, Matthew Richards for the backing, along with Dave Partington on Bass and Bernard Francis on Washboard. Also Christine and David for the PA equipment and Gabriela for collecting players names and Vince for allowing use of the room.

That's all for now, see you on Tuesday 18th November - Turned Out Nice again - Malcolm Palmer your Roving Reporter.

I keep in regular contact with Cathy Darlington who organises the Chester GFS Branch and they still have a good attendance. I have been there it's a great venue, 1st Thursday each month.
