STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - OCTOBER 2013
MALCOLM'S REPORT
Another great evening was had for October although there some who could not attend for some reason or other there some tunes that I have never heard played on the ukulele before like Bring Me Sunshine as played by Zac Evans Gabriella plays such numbers likewise Matthew Richards I have one that I sometimes play that was arranged by the now late Tommy Ashmore from a Eclipse 78 [that were sold in Woolworths in the 1930s] Make Hay While The Sun Is Shinning as featured by Leslie Sarony who was one of the two leslies who were popular on the radio I still have a collection of them that were played on a wind up gramophone I would not attempt to play them on a modern stylus they do not come cheap. It is the time of the year with the dark nights when I do not like night driving especially being on tablets for the problem I have since Glenys passed away Xmas is not going to be the same this year without Her although She will be in Andrews & My thoughts I have started to get some of My interests back again like going down to the Severn Valley Railway at Bewdley into My 12th year which would have been the same for Glenys early in October I attended the 75th Anniversary Dinner of The Stourbridge and District Amateur Radio Society which I have been a member now for 62 years It was held at The Dilshad restaurant Old Swinford Stourbridge I am the third oldest serving member 66 & 75 are the other two. 75 yrs this December since Dudley Hippodrome first opened what a Nice gesture it would be if Dudley Council allowed the Friends Of The Hippodrome to have the building for five years & in that time it would be turned back into a theatre again & would be a asset to Dudley along with The Zoo & The Black Country Museum & like the time in July when GFS members played at the theatre in Morcombe the same could be done at Dudley Hippodrome It will happen I am certain ,at the moment money is being raised to start a Hippodrome charitable trust £5000 is needed & so far £1000 as been raised there are a lot of people in midland who want to see it opened watch this space. I am featured in the latest Wetherspoons News on page 43 the opening of the Avion Aldridge on the 9th July Glenys was with Me there on the Friday Before as She was on the following Sunday 14th July at The glass works cone in Wordsley for 1940s week end little did I or any one else no that two weeks later She would not be here . Still with My interests The first Organ Concert at The Buttermarket Shrewsbury [since September 2010 ] was held on the 22nd September 7 followed by another on the 20th October & 17th November both organists for the two dates live at Lytham St Annes there will also be a Concert in December & the list for 2014 will be made Its great having the Organ Concerts again on The ex Ritz Chatham Wurlitzer 3 Manual 12 Rank Organ I will look forward to seeing some of You there at some of the concerts & make arrangements for some to play it. I have entered for Britains Got Talent but because I could not attend the Audition on 30th Oct I was asked to send a DVD so what far better than the one of Myself playing at Dudley Hippodrome 7th December last year & as I mentioned who knows B G T may well held there in the future. I could not attend the week end meeting in Blackpool because Andrew & Myself where invited to a Nieces wedding in Hereford & its 4th time lucky I was asked to play for 15mins everyone enjoyed the performance even though it was short [see photo it was in a barn] Lyde Court Hereford, on Saturday I was at the Xmas Fair at Himley Hall & G Watkins Cider from Hereford where there who I meet up with at the Shropshire Steam rally I am still waiting for Denis the owner to invite some of us from the Stourbeidge Branch to play at His venue at Abbey Dore [see photo] The Next Jazz night at the Bonded warehouse Stourbridge December Friday 13th December at 7.30 pm The Ralph Allin Quartet .
