STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - NOVEMBER 2014

Malcolm's Report

Well, the second meeting at our new venue 'The Swan, Stream Road, Kingswinford' (which has had alterations done to it since our first meeting in October). The meeting was a success with all the uke players setting such a high standard of entertainment with George  Formby numbers, with Gabriela arranging all the players in the right order. It's working as a team that makes a good show. On Tuesday 16th December it will be 23 years since I started the Branch at The Robin Woods Community Centre, Scotts Road, Stourbridge. I still remember the first meeting and how many turned up - Roy Holloway (who is still with us), myself and another two names I can't remember.  I must thank everyone for supporting the November meeting, Dave, Christine, Matthew and Jonathan Richards for the PA and keyboard backing and Geoff on the Washboard, and not forgetting Vince of The Swan for allowing us to be there; last but not least all who attended. On Saturday 29th November, Andrew (now a new GFS member) Martin and myself were at the GFS Blackpool meeting just for the day and instead of driving there we booked up early and saved a lot of money by train. It was a very good day and great to see a number from the Stourbridge Branch and Chester Branch run by Cathy Darlington. I recently found out via Andrew Gatherer that Brian Shelton who organised several events for the Stourbridge Branch is now in The Firs Residential Care Home in Gospel End Sedgley. So on Monday 8th December some members from the Stourbridge Branch were invited to play and entertain the residents. Brian lost his wife earlier this year.  Finally a phone call received on 8th December regarding the number plate UKE1 from the late Allan Randall's Mercedes is up for sale, starting at £15,000 - Motor Rec. Co. Coleshill, 01675481327.

That's all for this year - Wish you all a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.  Turned out nice again - Your Roving Reporter Malcolm.
