STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - MAY 2015

Malcolm's Report

What a wonderful feast of entertainment at our fourth meeting of the GFS Branch at the Ashwood Public House, complete with large room and stage.  There's even a notice board outside advertising our meeting.  It's becoming very popular now with a few new performers every month. Gabriela could not be there on Tuesday 19th as she was on a visit to Sweden, where she came in contact with the two ladies who visited the Stourbridge Branch not all that long ago. We all hope to see them again in the near future. I would like to go over there once I have renewed my passport.  On Tuesday there were the great grandchildren (twins) of the late Tommy Ashmore (who helped me a lot when I first started to play) - Tommy's wife Floss passed away early this year. It's nice to know that there is still interest in the family - his daughter Pat and son-in-law David have always supported the Stourbridge Branch and the GFS like Tommy's wife Floss.   I have one of Tommy's ukes (Festival) which travels everywhere with me.  Dave and Pam Jenkins also attended the meeting on Tuesday and it is now time to remind everyone of the festival that takes place at Leamington Spa on Saturday 4th July. It is into its third year and proving very popular - unfortunately I will not be there as it is the final weekend of the Severn Valley Weekends (at the time of making this report I have not yet received the passes). There will be a report of the Severn Valley weekends and also of the Blackpool second GFS weekend meeting for 2015 on 6/7 June. Finally very many thanks to Christine and David for the use of the PA equipment and Matthew for his backing on the keybord and also Geoff for his backing on the washboard, and not forgetting everyone who attended making it a successful evening, but most of all to Chris for the use of the Ashwood where the setting is ideal with the stage and plenty of room to accommodate everyone.

Finally, I would like to say- It's Turned out Nice Again.  Your Roving Reporter Malcolm Palmer

One last item very many thanks for Christine Richard for Typing the report for me.
