STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - MARCH 2014

MALCOLM'S REPORT

After the delay of entering  the February report I thought I would get this one in early, but due to My commitments this one is also late.  I start this report with the March  weekend meeting at Blackpool I was only there for one day because on the Sunday it was our organ concert at Shrewsburys Buttermarket.  I was transported to Blackpool by Geoff salminen  & brought back to Wem in the early hours of Sunday morning by Martin where I stopped at his place until I was transported by two fellow committee members to the concert on our 3 Manual 12 Rank  Wurlitzer Organ. I was brought from there by two regular supporters of the STOT from Stourbridge which started on the Friday night assisting in placing the chairs at The Bonded Warehouse  Stourbridge for the Jazz  concert. The Sarah Smith All Stringed Quartet from Newtown Powys The following Monday I was shattered.      I enjoyed My stay in Blackpool how great it would have been if Glenys had still been alive I still miss her especially at this time of the year with the spring & new life appearing. I enjoyed meeting fellow members at there & listening to the wonderful playing  especially the younger members and how well represented the Stourbridge branch were.  I thoroughly enjoyed My brief  stay & hopefully will stay longer in June when I do not have any more interests going at the same time. I received My Syncopator & I noticed there is a new CD featuring  Billy Uke Scott  who I was in contact with until he passed away in November 2004 although I did not see one they where on sale at the shop in Blackpool for £5. Billy only made two films A Night Of Magic & Rainbow Round The Corner which is the difficult one to obtain.

Moving on to our March meeting  the performance of each one was to a very high standard which was enjoyed by everyone there which was excellent follow on from Blackpool Jane & Dave Partington  were unable to attend & like wise Bernard  Francis so His place was taken on the washboard by Geoff Salminen with the talented Matthew Richards on the keyboard. Bob Elwell also could not attend We wish all a speedy recovery.  There where a number of outstanding acts like our poet Blake who does a fine job of setting poetry to George's music, Gabriella opened the show with Her imitable  style & there was Johnny on the harmonica  & Cameron Aitken  played some Billy Uke Scott numbers.   Micheal Adcock & His mother said there was a good attendance at The Leominster fortnightly meetings which are held at The White Lion on Thursday Night not far away where Glenys used to live in Caswell Crescent off the Worcester Road . It was great to see Andrew Little & Karen  -The Dinky Dos they will be playing at Bewdley during the 1940s weekends which the final date for names in the 12th May I should be there this year there will be memories taking part with out Glenys.  Finally I must thank all who attended  Especially John & Angie for the use of the Summer House & Christine & Dave Richards for the use of PA & Matthew Richards on Key Board  & Our younger members like Sam who are coming on in leaps & bounds. To end on a sad note John Beck who was famous for His Have You Got A light Boy has passed away aged 81 & I have been on a recent visit to Wigan & visited the new location for the statue see photo it was a interesting visit to see a very good friend of mine.                    That’s All For Now Turned Out Nice Again  Your Roving Reporter Malcolm Palmer    No more news on the Hippodrome  there is a promise it could be good
