STOURBRIDGE BRANCH MEETING - JUNE 2015

Malcolm's Report

What a wonderful night of entertainment at the June meeting. It really was 95% of George's numbers including one or two that are not featured too much.  It was the same at Blackpool, two numbers like "Who Do You Think You're a Shoving off" and "Running Round the Fountain in Trafalgar Square". There are others at Stourbridge, our very own Alan Evans, featured the first number and Steve Evans who used to attend the Branch feature another of George's tunes "Peel the Potatoes" and I sometimes play "I like Bananas".  Blake May, the poet who sets his poetry to George's tunes played two new poems. Blake features new ones every month.

I have just got over the weekends on the Severn Valley Railway. It's the highlight of the year for myself and worth being a volunteer. I am working there once a week this year being my 14th year - Glenys was also a volunteer.  There were only a few this year from the Stourbridge Branch, although there should have been more who had got passes.  Geoff Salminen was there with his Morris Vintage car at Kidderminster where he also plays the piano in the 1940's room at Kidderminster (see photo).  I found out from the organiser that some from Stourbridge should have been at Bewdley to play as a group when the train were at the platforms.  I do not recall being notified about the idea. I missed having Andrew Little and Karen Jones (The Dinky Doos) there this year - Kevin Mac was at Arley and Paul Harper was at Bridgnorth. He has a great entertaining 1940's show which he puts together ewach year. It's through Paul that Glenys and myself became volunteers and members 14 years ago.  Chichester Camera Club have featured me on there web site.

I must thank everyone for attending the Branch meeting and the 1940's weekend, not forgetting Matthew on Keyboard and Geoff on the washboard and David and Christine Richards for the use of the PA equipment.  Not forgetting Chris from the Ashwood for the use of the Function Room.

Finally spare a thought for two who used to attend the Branch and seldom attend now a days due to ill health. They are Bernard Francis and Bob Elwell.

Turned out nice again - Roving Reporter - Malcolm Palmer

STOP PRESS - I was unable to go to Leamington Spa due to the SVR 940s but reports inform me of a very good time was had by all who attended especially from the Stourbridge Branch.
