STOURBRIDGE BRANCH - CHRISTMAS MEETING 2011
20TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE STOURBRIDGE BRANCH
SANTA CLAUS SPECIAL GUEST STARS AL JOLSON
What a memorable night for the 20th Anniversary of the Branch I never expected such a turn out for the event [Different to 20yrs ago at the first meeting there were about five] 2011 there where 27 players who gave first class entertainment including one from USA via Half Penny Green Aerodrome [Not true ] Al Jolson [Roy Westwood ] who gave a super impression of him starting the second half to a flying start after the 30 min interval, including a buffet which had taken a lot of preparing by Christine Richards. A very many thanks to all concerned & for all the help over the past 12 months with PA equipment to Dave, Jonathan & Matthew Richards. Jonathan had two jobs at the 20th Anniversary –adjusting microphones & looking after the video recording of which I am looking forward to seeing, as with past recordings will be of a high standard. Matthew was also busy throughout the evening along with Dave Partington on Keyboard & Guitar in that order. Bernard our washboard player was not there & I found out on the following day He had not been very well. I must thank everyone who I have just mentioned for all the work they have done over the past 12 months not forgetting Rob Evans for taking the photos for the website, but most of all to Sarah & Adam for allowing the use of such a excellent venue like the Summer House & the staff who look after the drinks etc. I must also thank the owners who where at the Summer House when the Branch first moved there way back in November 2005 –Dave Cope –George Fox & His Wife Jean. Must not forget Roy Holloway who as continued to support Me right from the very first meeting at The Robin Woods Community Centre [No longer there now it was demolished two yrs ago] Scotts Rd 1991-2005 when after having to move from there [Which still hold memories I used to attend the Stourbridge & District Amateur Radio Society Meetings there & West Midlands Amateur Computer Club meeting there] The Branch moved to The R A O B club also in Scotts Rd after three meetings on the night before the fourth, I was informed that it had closed but after making several phone calls I managed to find a temporary venue were two meetings could be held It was My local club The Baggeridge Social Club, it gave us time to find other venues it was The Summer House that was the best so the Branch has seen some changes in 20 yrs. Returning to the Anniversary I must thank Paul for taking over on the keyboard during the interval & most of all every one who made a contribution towards the engraved plaque & flowers I received for Glenys & the donation I never expected either once again very many thanks something I will always treasure like the photo I received from Steve Evans & all who attended the tenth anniversary at the Robin Woods Centre 2001. Many thanks to Steve being dressed as Father Christmas at the 20th but thanks to You all for attending and making it into a most memorable evening. Just one or two items before ending the report I was at The NEC on Sunday 11th Dec to take My fourth audition for Britain,s Got Talent of which at the time of writing this report I am awaiting the results to see if I have got through to round 2 the Xmas charity show at The Stourbridge Cricket Club which some from the branch where set to take part in was cancelled due to a F A Cup match taking part on the same day again at the time of writing no date has been set for the event to be held.
Glenys & I wish You all the very best wishes for 2012 & see You All on Tuesday 17th January 2012.
